The second-hand marketplace Members Express Anger About Size Updates
Shoppers are voicing their frustration due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
The popular resale platform has altered its sizing categories for female and kids' apparel but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Digital Channels Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches similar services.
The platform has recommended to examine their items and update the measurements by hand if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.
Measurement Approach Updates
Before the change, the sizing featured a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L used to be a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Stories
Frankie Bridger, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Another user, from Glasgow, stated items she posted with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as size 20–22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they may become frustrated," she said.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, said she had been left angered because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizing for "all her products".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion when a surprising modification within the service has received backlash: last year, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
