Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from his teammate by one point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed corner approaching the last turn on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in P19, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
